This was the animation i created for my fmp. i chose to do my project on penny loafers as i had real trouble deciding what to do and by choosing something very mundane that not many people really thought about, and some not even know what it looked like. By choosing this object it allowed me to do whatever i wanted with it and develop some quite obscure ideas around it.
the basic storyline is that the person slices, toasts and eats the loaf of bread, with pennies spread over like marmalade. the loaf and pennies that they are eating then become actual penny loafers on their feet. they then walk through town to a duck pond, take one shoe off and then feed it to the ducks, as if it were bread. they then walk through a city to a vending machine and use the spare penny from the shoe they have left to buy a new shoe, so then they are back with the full pair of shoes. they make a phonecall to a friend with the penny in their new loafer and talk to their friend. after the conversation is over the focus shifts to the friend, you see the penny come down the pay phone as change. they then walk through the park and to their house. after entering the house they then insert the penny into the loafer on the table. Invest in a penny loafer then appears on the screen, as the person is putting their penny into it as if investing into a bank, as well as promoting the idea to the audience of going out and buying or investing in a pair of loafers.

fmp exhibition

it all finally came to an end mid june and all the exhibitions were up.
it's been such a great year doing foundation, i would have never expected to have been doing art let alone illustration so i'm proud of what i've achieved. as cheesy as it sounds i've got so many great memories of the past year, from moping about on fat fridays with a hangover to blasting out dubstep for weeks on end.
everyone did really well on the course and it's been such a learning curve.

here are the photos from my exhibition space. i put up a total of 23 mounted foam board stills from my animation. i also made a few extras which included the postcards in the centre of the above image, it had the final still of my animation with my name hand drawn on the back. on the left of this are some badges and keyrings i made with shrinkie paper of illustrations i had earlier created of the penny loafers and some pennys. i also printed out some circular stickers of my coin illustrations and stacked them up among stacks of real pennies.
all the keyrings and badges had been taken by the end of the private viewing of the exhibition opening night, so i'm hoping whoever stole them looked after them well!!

here is the second animation i made, it was part of my deconstruction project. I made it on final cut pro this time as opposed to windows movie maker which is what i'd used the previous time. I basically wanted to refine what minimal skills i had in this area and just give it a second go. i tend to jump into things without really thinking it through properly so as a result it's annoyingly rough around the edges but i did it in a couple of days. I do enjoy making them but it's just the editing that takes forever and always goes pear shaped. plus i hate cutting things out with a passion and i had to cut the components up for this animation for a good few hours.

How Billy Became William

This was the first animation i ever created. we were set a one week project to create an animation on whatever we liked. i tend to try to take the opportunity with each project to draw something new and different; so this time i decided to choose dinosaurs. from there i then somehow came up with the idea of it being a lonely dinosaur with no friends or 'billy no mates' and show how he goes into a machine and new friends are generated, so he is finally a happy dinosaur and he becomes reinvented as william.

past portfolio work

At college i studied textiles, photography and english language; i then stayed at Alton College and have just completed the art foundation course there.
Here is the body of work that i built up in the year, and some past work from textiles and photography.

This was a series of narrative pieces on the book the borrowers.

This project was on inventions, and we had to create a t-shirt and package it.
I chose to use the telephone, focussing on the idea of voicemail.
I packaged it in a handmade cardboard envelope and attached a sound clip
to it so that when opened it played 'Mr Postman' by the Carpenters.

This work was for the topic of deconstruction.
I chose a typewriter, it proved very hard to take apart,
so i tried to explore and deconstruct the different connotations
of a typewriter.
Here i created a poster for the science museum, advertising a transport exhibition.
My project was to show a mode of transport through visual stripes.
I chose cable cars and represented the stripes through mark-making and the lines of the cables.
The concept created was of how they hang above our heads and how the idea of using them as a mode of transport, and also the effect pollution and congestion is having on our environment is going over our heads.

These images were for a topic on air.

This was one of my first projects on the art foundation.
We had to choose an object and draw it in lots of different ways throughout the week.
I chose cassette tapes, this was my final image of the week.

From autumn to January we had two hours of life drawing a week.
I've never done anything like this before and i found it really useful and fun.

This is the dress i made in textiles during A-levels, it was based on one of Viktor and Rolf's
collections, as the letters are  3D and come out of the dress.
I based this project on seagulls and the dress resembles this by the text reading 'SQUAWK',
and there are small seagull illustrations on the sides of the letters.

These were the images i created for my A-level photography exam.
The title of it was 'discord' and i chose to merge hands and feet into shoes.
